I bought a hydration pack and used it for the first time on Sunday. I wanted to have one so when / if I decide to go the distance and break out of 13.1 miles that I would have it. I hate carrying water or Gatorade with me on my runs. I hate carrying anything including my phone. It’s just a pain to me and if I don’t have to do it, I won’t. The more comfortable I am running, the happier I am. So I wore my Dolfin Pack which was designed for water sports and hiking etc. It’s light, made out of neoprene that holds the 1.5 liter bladder and the chest strap and shoulder straps are pretty comfortable. The wierdest thing about it is the cold spot on the middle of your back when your body temp gets warmer than the water pack. I liked my hands free run but the downside to my new contraption is that I’m still trying to figure out how to actually get the water out. There’s a lever that controls water flow but I spent too much time trying to work it so it was discouraging and frustrating. I did get water out of it but only after a minute or two of messing around with it. I don’t like having to bite the rubber end to open the way for water but it’s not hard, just harder than slerping out of a water bottle. It doesn’t have pockets It’s just an adjustment that I’ll probably give another go at soon. I don’t know if I’ll take it to my race on Sunday because I don’t want to struggle in a race but I might just to get used to it in a racing situation. Overall I’m glad I have it, the jury is out on whether or not I’ll be a full on adopter of it. Stay tuned!
